Around 1,400 square metres of additional rental space is set to offer growing companies long-term prospects at the medical technology hub in Forchheim
Medical Valley Forchheim GmbH submitted the planning application for the Medical Valley Centre II at the end of July 2026. This marks a key milestone on the path to realising the expansion project. The planned building is set to comprise around 1,400 square metres of lettable space and will offer growing companies premises that can be used in the long term at the Medical Valley site in Forchheim.
The Medical Valley Centre II is aimed in particular at companies in the fields of medical technology, the healthcare sector, IT, research and development, as well as specialised service providers. The aim is to provide companies that have successfully established themselves in Forchheim with long-term growth prospects, whilst at the same time creating new capacity for further business relocations and start-ups.
„By submitting the planning application, we are taking the crucial next step towards realising the Medical Valley Centre II. Our aim is clear: companies that are thriving in Forchheim should not have to relocate to another site simply because of a lack of space. We want to offer them a long-term home for their businesses right here,“ explains Viktor Naumann, Managing Director of Medical Valley Forchheim GmbH.
A response to the high demand at the site
Since it opened in 2017, the existing Medical Valley Centre has become a key component of the Forchheim medical technology cluster. By 2025, between 15 and 20 companies and scientific institutions were regularly based there. According to the management, the occupancy rate of the available space was usually between 94 and 98 per cent.
The Medical Valley Centre II builds directly on this development. Whilst the existing centre enables young companies and start-ups in particular to get started, network and develop their business models, the new building is intended to provide long-term rental space for the next phase of growth. In the long term, this will also free up space in the existing centre for further start-ups and new businesses to set up there.
Successful business set-ups and growing companies
In recent years, the Medical Valley Centre Forchheim has supported several innovative companies in establishing themselves and developing their businesses. These include, amongst others, ProCarement GmbH, VOC-Advanced Breath Diagnostics GmbH and LinaThera GmbH. Companies such as Consato GmbH, Kaiser-Amm GmbH and TimeLine Consulting GmbH & Co.KG are also prime examples of business development and growth stemming from the Medical Valley Centre’s ecosystem.
This economic development is complemented by the expansion of cooperation with universities and research institutions. The partnership with Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg, agreed in early 2025, is intended to strengthen the exchange between academia and industry, facilitate the transfer of knowledge, and attract qualified young talent and skilled workers to the region.
The cluster’s critical mass will be further increased
The additional space is intended to further increase the critical mass of the medical technology cluster at the Forchheim site. Having more companies, expertise and potential collaboration partners in one location improves the conditions for knowledge transfer, joint projects and additional regional value creation.
„The Medical Valley Centre II is far more than just a physical extension. It is a strategic step forward for the entire location. With every company we retain in Forchheim on a long-term basis or attract to the area, the network grows, and with it the opportunity for further collaboration, innovation and skilled jobs,“ said Naumann.
Investment impetus from the region for the region
The new building is to be constructed without government funding. Medical Valley Forchheim GmbH therefore regards the project as an investment initiative from the region for the region.
Following the submission of the planning application, the planning permission process is now set to begin. Medical Valley Forchheim GmbH will provide information on the planned start of construction, the further timetable and the next steps in the project once the relevant procedures have been completed.
