The Medical Valley European Metropolitan Region Nuremberg (EMN) is a leading international medical technology cluster.
Highly specialised research institutions as well as numerous internationally leading and emerging companies are active here. With the aim of jointly finding solutions to the challenges of health care today and tomorrow, they cooperate closely with world-renowned health research institutions.
In combination with the international market and competitive position of individual players, this offers optimal conditions to enable the rapid development of products, processes and services.
Numerous significant product innovations have come to market from the research laboratories of the Leading-Edge Cluster in recent years.
The outstanding national and international position of this economically strong region was confirmed in January 2010 when it was named a national cluster of excellence for medical technology by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) additionally strengthened.
In April 2017, Medical Valley, in cooperation with the Customs yard and the Health Hackers Erlangen one of twelve national "Digital
Hubs" from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) the Digital Health Hub.
Medical Valley EMN e. V., which currently has more than 210 members from business, science, healthcare, networks and politics, has been acting as the cluster management organisation since 2007.
Concrete activities of the Medical Valley EMN currently include the operation of the Innovation Centres Medical Valley Center Erlangen and Forchheim, the coordination of the Bavarian Medical Technology Cluster (in cooperation with Forum MedTech Pharma), the implementation of the Medical Valley Awards (prize for research teams in pre-start-up phases) and the coordination of the thematic platform "Digital Medicine/Health" within the framework of the Centre for Digitisation. Bavaria.
Medical Valley EMN is also a consortium partner of EITHealth, an association of European partners working within the framework of Horizon 2020 develop new solutions under the pillars "Promote Healthy Living", "Support Active Ageing" and "Improve Healthcare". EIT Health is currently one of the largest health research programmes in the world, with a budget of up to 80 million euros per year for the next 7 to 15 years.
The Medical Valley GmbH as the cluster's commercial platform, represents a competent implementation partner that is available for all questions relating to healthcare market access consulting, commercial consulting as well as capital brokering.
In 2019, the dmac - Digital Health Application Center was founded in Bamberg. The dmac is another essential hub in the Medical Valley ecosystem and offers effective support and advice to companies on their way to the digital medicine of tomorrow.
